Besides, the brand also unveiled WearOS 4, Google’s upcoming operating system for smartwatches. Here’s everything you need to know about WearOS 4.
Based on Android 13, Google says WearOS 4 brings several under-the-hood changes that are aimed at improving battery life and introduces a new text-to-speech engine which is more accurate and faster compared to the current version.
Google is also working on an improved Gmail and Calendar app integration, which lets you reply to emails and RSVP to event invites from the watch itself. The recently launched Google Home app for WearOS will show enhanced device controls like the ability to adjust lighting, control median and camera preview. Another useful feature is the ability to access your favourite mobile apps from the watch.
WearOS 4 will also feature a new backup and restore tool that should make it easy for users to switch between devices without having to factory reset. It can also help carry over data and settings from one WearOS watch to another. Another useful change is that when setting up a watch from the phone, app permissions on the phone will be carried over to the watch.
Samsung and Google also have tied up to bring a new Watch Face Format which will let developers create a watch face in XML format without having to write any code. Google says WearOS 4 will automatically optimize watch faces to use less battery and offer improved performance.
While WearOS 4 Developer Preview is currently available for download, the stable version will be launched sometime later this year.
