Call identification platform Truecaller has reintroduced the voice call recording capability for Android and iOS platforms. The company has currently restricted voice recording features to subscribers with Premium Connect, Assistant, or Premium Family plan and the feature is currently limited to select markets like the US.
Android users who have set Truecaller as their default calling app can start recording calls directly from the dialer. Similarly, those who use a third-party dialer will receive a pop-up window from the Truecaller app to initiate call recording.
Unlike Android, Apple does not allow any app to record calls, so Truecaller has come up with a workaround. Users need to dial a phone number through the Truecaller app and merge both calls to start recording. To ensure user privacy, the other person on the call will hear a beep sound to indicate that the call is being recorded.
Call recording was one of the original features of Truecaller and was available until 2021. However, the company removed it in 2022 due to Android’s regulation on third-party calling apps. The company is also planning to introduce transcripts of these call recordings, which will be rolled out at a later date, and the call data will be stored locally on the smartphone to ensure maximum privacy.
Truecaller offers monthly and annual premium subscription plans. The most affordable plan, Premium Connect, costs Rs 75 per month or Rs 529 per year. Similarly, the Premium Assistant account costs Rs 99 per month or Rs 999 per year. Lastly, the Premium Family plan, which can be used on up to four additional devices, is priced at Rs 132 per month or Rs 925 per year.
