OnePlus Watch 2 with circular display might launch next year

The Watch 2 is said to be better than the predecessor, and considering the circular form factor, it is unlikely to be an Oppo Watch spinoff.

OnePlus announced its first smartwatch back in 2021, and nearly three years later, the company is reportedly working on the OnePlus Watch 2. According to the X user named Max Jambor (formerly on Twitter), OnePlus will launch the Watch 2 with a circular display in 2024.

The report highlights that OnePlus is currently focusing on implementing its new signature circular design among all of its products. It also mentions that the upcoming OnePlus Open and the OnePlus 12 will also have a circular element, possibly referring to the camera island on these devices.

The Watch 2 is said to be better than the predecessor, and considering the circular form factor, it is unlikely to be an Oppo Watch spinoff, as all Oppo smartwatches running on WearOS feature a rectangular design.

Unlike most Android-based smartwatches, the original OnePlus Watch (review) did not run on WearOS, which limited the capabilities of the smartwatch, and it was also not as expensive as WearOS-powered smartwatches. Currently, there is no information available on either the hardware or software capabilities of the upcoming OnePlus Watch 2.

In fact, OnePlus also released several special editions of its smartwatch, including the OnePlus Harry Potter limited edition, which is still available for sale for Rs 16,999 on the company’s official website.

Given OnePlus’s launch cycle, the Watch 2 might launch in the first quarter of 2023 along with the company’s next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 12, which is likely to be based on the next flagship SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Currently, the OnePlus Watch is not available for sale in India. However, the company does sell a more affordable OnePlus Nord Watch priced at Rs 3,999 for those who seek a smartwatch from OnePlus.
