OnePlus has officially announced OxygenOS 16, its newest Android skin based on Android 16. The latest from OnePlus brings several visual and under-the-hood changes, and also gets Google’s Material 3 Expressive treatment. Here’s a quick look at all the new features, design changes, and the rollout timeline for OxygenOS 16.
OnePlus has divided the design changes into two categories – ‘Breathe With You’ and ‘Thrive with Free Expression’. While the former brings visual upgrades to the operating system, the latter focuses on offering more customisation options.

OxygenOS 16: Rollout Schedule and eligible devices
OnePlus also shared a list of devices that will be getting the OxygenOS 16 update. The much-anticipated Android 16-based update will start rolling out sometime in November and will initially come to a bunch of devices, including the recently launched OnePlus 13. Below is the list of devices that will be getting OxygenOS 16 in the coming months.

iOS 26 inspired Gaussian Blur
At first glance, OxygenOS 16 may look like its predecessor, but the new version uses Gaussian blur in more user elements, giving it a more “Liquid Glass” look and feel. This will most likely be noticeable in the home screen search bar, app drawer, recents screen and the built-in Photos app, which now has an iOS 26-like translucent floating bottom bar.

Customisable Quick Settings
OxygenOS 16 also brings another subtle but really useful change to the Quick Settings panel. Apart from a larger clock, OnePlus has also moved the edit and three-dot menu button from the bottom of the panel to the top.
However, the main update is to the quick tiles themselves. With OxygenOS 16, users will be able to customise the quick settings panel to their preferences. While the top half of the panel will still have 2×1 tiles, you can now remove or rearrange them to your liking. Also, OxygenOS 16 lets you expand any tile you want. While most tiles behave the same way when expanded, some, like the flashlight, offer more actions depending on where you tap.

Home screen improvements
OxygenOS 16 also brings some significant changes to the home screen customisation and layout. Now, you can change the home screen layout to 5×7, resize widgets any way you want and even expand app icons and app folders. As for the app drawer, OxygenOS 16 now has a new “Categories” tab, which, as the name suggests, automatically organises apps in categories like iPhones.

Using icon themes is something many of us do, but OxygenOS 15 lacked the ability to theme all icon apps. However, with OxygenOS 16, users can now choose to apply system-wide icon themes, which not only appear on the home screen and app drawer but also apply to the recents screen and Settings.

Lock screen customisation
With OxygenOS 15, OnePlus introduced what it calls Flux Themes, a bunch of preset lock screen themes that smoothly transition from always-on display to the lock screen to the home screen. OxygenOS 16 takes the lock screen customisation to the next level with Flux Themes 2.0.
The new update allows you to add more depth, customise and resize the clock position and even change the art text to your liking. Moreover, you can also set a live photo or video as your wallpaper and even add iPhone-like mini widgets.
Supported third-party apps can also show Live Alerts. (Image Source: Android Authority)
More interactive Live Alerts
OnePlus’ Live Alerts, a feature that dynamically shows important information in a pill-shaped area around the selfie camera, is also getting some new features. Apart from a few built-in and select third-party apps, OxygenOS 16 also brings Android 16’s new Live Updates API, meaning it can now get information from apps like Google Maps.

New AI features
With OxygenOS 16, OnePlus introduced “Private Computing Cloud”, an Apple-like private cloud infrastructure, which the company claims does not share your data with third-party services.
Talking of AI, the most useful and practical AI feature you will get with OxygenOS 16 is the AI Writer toolkit. The functionality works everywhere and can even help you generate mind maps, captions for social media posts, draft emails, improve and fix text, and even make charts.
With the new camera app, OxygenOS 16 can also scan documents and presentations and quickly convert photos into PDFs. As for the built-in Recorder app, users can now transcribe audio in real time, summarise content, create links to their files for sharing and reduce ambient noise.
OxygenOS 16 is also getting a new and handy AI-powered search feature that lets you search for anything on your device using natural language prompts. Also, like One UI, all AI features will now be listed in a separate section called OnePlus AI, something that will make it easy for users to quickly find the feature they want to use.

Mind Space finally gets the much-needed Gemini treatment. (Image Source: Android Authority)
Mind Space, now powered by Google Gemini
Mind Space, OnePlus’ AI-powered feature that lets you organise notes, screenshots, articles and more, is finally getting the much-needed Gemini treatment. This means you can now ask Gemini to quickly find any information you saved to Mind Space and even ask questions about it. However, the integration isn’t live in the beta version of the software.
Smoother animations
OxygenOS 15 is one of the smoothest Android skins to date, thanks to OnePlus’ Parallel Processing algorithm. But with OxygenOS 16, things are going to get much smoother as the company is expanding the Parallel Processing 2.0 algorithm to more places like the app drawer, Shelf and even the 3-button navigation bar.
