Nintendo Switch 2 has been the talk of the town for years now, with tipsters churning out new rumours every now and then.
While previous speculation suggested that Nintendo’s upcoming console might bear the name tag “Switch Superior”, a new report by the Taiwan Economic Daily claims that the handheld device might be called “Switch 2” after all.
According to the new report, the upcoming handheld console will have a “dual-screen” Nintendo DS like design, but it is unlikely that this will be the case as Nintendo might struggle ensuring backward compatibility with existing titles.
The report also suggests that the Switch 2 will have a larger display than its predecessor, offer more battery life, bring performance improvements and even have some AI powered features like support for NVIDIA DLSS, the company’s AI upscaling technology.
As for the price and launch date, a Discord user named “moistycharlie”, who previously predicted the price of Sony’s recently launched PlayStation 5 Pro suggests that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have a base price of $400 and will be announced sometime next month.
Some leaks also suggest that the upcoming console will have an 8-inch screen, support FullHD resolution, and have magnetically attached Joy-Con controllers.
The tipster also claimed that the handheld will be available in two SKUs, but it is still unclear what the difference between the two is. While the dual screen design seems like a far stretch, chances are high that the device will have two SKUs, as Nintendo might announce a digital only console in addition to a more expensive version with slot for physical cartridges.
Earlier this year, Nintendo had confirmed that the successor to the Switch console will be announced “within the fiscal year”, but the company had reportedly told some game publishers that the new console won’t be launched until early 2025.
