Months after it was launched, Meta Verified, which lets Instagram and Facebook users verify their identity, is coming to India. But unlike Twitter, Meta is honouring legacy verified badges.

In India, those verifying on iOS and Android will pay Rs 699 per month for the same. Users will be able to verify on web too at a later date.  With the subscription, users will get the verified badge, proactive protection from impersonation and account support.

Businesses are not eligible for Meta Verified at the moment as social network explores “what a valuable subscription offering for businesses could look like in the future.”

A note from Meta said since the initial testing in Australia and New Zealand, they have “made a few adjustments based on learnings, including the removal of increased reach”. This will also be the approach for India, the note said, adding that new elements to add to the subscription were being explored.

How to get Meta verified

Requirements: To be eligible, the Meta accounts must meet minimum activity requirements, such as prior posting history, and applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Select and Pay: Users must then select the profile they want to get verified and set up their payment mechanism.

Verify: Applicants are then required to submit a government ID that matches the profile name and photo of the Facebook or Instagram account they’re applying for. If the verification is rejected, the amount paid is refunded.
