Amid widespread concerns about the impact of AI on jobs, Meta is bringing back job listings as a built-in feature on Facebook Marketplace.

The social media giant said on Monday, October 13, that it will start showing local job listings from small businesses to users looking for entry-level roles or work opportunities in the trade and service industries. The job listings will be public and visible to all users who are 18 years and older, who can search for new jobs via the dedicated tab in Facebook Marketplace.

However, the new feature is being rolled out only in the United States. It is unclear if the company plans on expanding the feature to other countries like India, which has the most number of Facebook users in the world (more than 383 million users, as per Statista).

The move to restore job search on Facebook comes amid concerns of a deteriorating job market, especially in the tech sector which is seeing a wave of AI-driven layoffs. Tech industry leaders such as Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei have predicted that AI will cause 50 per cent of entry-level roles to disappear in the next five years. Others like Nvidia boss Jensen Huang believe that AI will make some jobs obsolete while creating new ones.

In addition to the Marketplace Jobs sub-tab, job listings may also appear in local and career-focused Facebook Groups. Local businesses will also be able to post jobs directly to their Facebook pages.

Users can filter these listings based on certain preferences such as category, distance, and job type. “Finding a job should be easy and accessible. Whether you’re looking for your first real job or a part-time gig, Facebook’s new job tool helps you find and apply for the kind of work you want,” Facebook said in a blog post.
