Looking to update to Apple’s macOS Sequoia 15? Here’s why it is best to wait a few days

Apple's macOS Sequoia update is breaking security tools such as CrowdStrike. Do we have an answer to why this happens?

Just a week ago, Apple released its latest macOS update, macOS Sequoia 15, along with iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. According to TechCrunch’s latest report, macOS Sequoia is causing issues with several security tools, including popular ones like CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, and Microsoft.

At the moment, it is not clear whether the problem is caused by macOS Sequoia or by the security tools that have not been updated. However, many Mac users are experiencing difficulties using their machines, particularly with web browsing (on Firefox) and other network-related issues.

According to the report, a CrowdStrike sales engineer in a Slack room said, “I’m very sorry to report that we will not be supporting Sequoia on day one, in spite of our intention (and previous track record) to support the latest OS within hours of (General Availability),” and also sent out a tech alert to the customers regarding the same.

According to several Reddit posts, Mac users (with CrowdStrike security) who update to the latest macOS Sequoia are facing issues while loading websites, and the only way to fix this issue is to disable the Falcon network filter.

As of now, Apple has not responded to TechCrunch’s request on the same. In addition to CrowdStrike customers on Mac, customers with other security solutions, such as SentinelOne, ESET, and Microsoft Defender, are also facing similar issues.

This happens months after a significant outage of Microsoft PCs using CrowdStrike endpoint security. If you’re a Mac user with an endpoint security solution, it might be best to wait a few more weeks before updating to the latest macOS Sequoia, especially on your work machine.
