LG unveiled its first foldable laptop, the Gram Fold, on Monday. Currently, it is limited to South Korea. LG’s latest foldable is similar to what we have seen from brands like Asus and Lenovo. When folded, it looks like a diary, and when unfolded, it morphs into a large 17-inch touch display, powered by a 13th Gen Intel Core i5 processor.
The LG Gram Fold features a large 17-inch OLED screen with a native resolution of 2560×1920 pixels and a 4:3 aspect ratio. It has DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification and covers 99.5 per cent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. When folded (L-shape), it turns into a fairly compact 12-inch tablet. While there is an option to use this machine with a traditional keyboard that connects over Bluetooth, LG is also offering a virtual keyboard that covers the bottom half of the device.
According to LG, the hinge system, which is the backbone of this foldable, is rated to last for 30,000 folds, which is slightly less than what Samsung claims for its foldable devices. This translates to 20 folds per day for a period of four years. Despite all this hardware, the device weighs just 1.25 kilograms, making it slightly heavier than most LG Gram laptops, which weigh around 1 kilogram.
The LG Gram Fold is powered by the 13th Gen Intel Core i5-1335U processor with embedded Iris Xe graphics, along with 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of internal storage. The computer is fueled by a 72 Whr battery with support for 65W fast charging via the Thunderbolt 4 capable USB-C port. The device also features a tri-speaker setup, although it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The latest foldable from LG comes with a price tag of 4.99 million won, which is approximately $3,729 or Rs 310,262. However, as part of the launch offer, the laptop will be available for just 3.99 million won, approximately $2,982 or Rs 248,109. While it is more expensive than similarly specced laptops, it is in line with other foldable laptops from the competition.
