Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 15 series in the second week of September, followed by its availability for purchase a week later. Now, according to the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, featuring an exclusive periscope camera lens, is anticipated to become the best-selling model despite its higher price point.
In fact, the iPhone 15 Pro Max alone is projected to account for 35 to 40 per cent of the total iPhone 15 series shipments. It’s estimated that Apple might ship around 10 per cent more iPhone 15 Pro Max units by the end of the year compared to the current iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Kuo also suggests that Apple could commence shipping the iPhone 15 Pro Max as early as this week. The company’s shipments for the iPhone 15 series are estimated to exceed 80 million units by the end of this year, with the number expected to rise to 220 million units by the end of 2024.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max is set to feature a periscope telephoto lens, a technology similar to the one seen on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. This innovation will enable Apple the ability to provide exceptional zoom capabilities on its premium model, and the device is speculated to offer either 6x or 10x optical zooming capability. Moreover, this feature is expected to trickle down to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro model next year, according to a report.
Earlier reports had indicated possible delays for the more premium iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models due to challenges related to the new, thinner display manufactured using LIPO (low-injection pressure over-molding) technology. However, recent updates suggest that Apple has resolved these issues and is now poised to ensure a consistent supply by the Western holiday season.
Despite a decline in global smartphone shipments in 2023, Apple seems to have fared well. According to a report by Omdia, the iPhone 14 Pro Max emerged as the best-selling smartphone of 2023, boasting a shipment volume of 26.5 million units just in the first half of this year. This highlights the demand for high-end smartphones from Apple and corroborates Kuo’s prediction of the iPhone 15 Pro Max becoming the next top-selling iPhone.
