Google has announced a new feature for its Android TV OS, where users can now browse for movies available for rentals and purchases within the dedicated shop tab. The feature is currently rolling out to all users across the US and is likely to come to other markets in the next few weeks. The new shop tab will be available directly on the homepage and will show movies that are available for rentals and purchases. It will showcase all the latest titles available on platforms like Google Play Movies, Google TV, and YouTube. This menu will also include movies that you have already purchased via a smartphone or a tablet. A similar feature has been available on Amazon's Prime Video for over a year, where all the rentals are located inside the shop tab, which includes Prime exclusive movies and content from other OTT platforms like Lionsgate Play, VROTT, Manorama Max, Hoichoi, AMC+, and more. Movies purchased via Google Play Movies, Google TV, and YouTube will be available for download on smartphones and tablets for offline viewing. Similarly, the company is currently working on a new version of the Android TV OS based on Android 14, expected to roll out to select models in the coming months. The next iteration of the Android TV OS by Google is expected to offer an improved user interface with features like a top-level accessibility menu and text scaling. It is also expected to include a new home screen layout.
