Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 in Las Vegas LIVE Updates: January is here and that can only mean one thing for tech enthusiasts around the world: the widely anticipated trade show known as CES featuring the best of what the tech industry has to offer.

Products ranging from quirky gadgets to new automotive technology are expected to make their debut at CES 2025 that is being held in Las Vegas, US, from January 7 to January 10. The global tech bazaar brings together everyone from tech giants to innovative startups, major automakers, industry executives, media, and government leaders.

“There is great momentum heading into the show with a record 3400+ Innovation Award submissions, over 4500 exhibitors including roughly 1400 startups, and 1100 speakers for over 300 conference sessions,” said Gary Shapiro, CEO and vice chair of Consumer Technology Association (CTA) – the traders’ body behind CES.

While artificial intelligence is still expected to be the hot topic of the show, robotics, extended reality, and automotive technology as well as policy issues such as trade tariffs are expected to be focus points at CES 2025.

Meet Umi, Panasonic’s new AI wellness coach for families

Panasonic teased its new AI digital assistant called Umi at CES 2025. Umi is intended to serve as a personalised, AI wellness coach. It has been developed in partnership with Anthropic. Umi is powered by Anthropic’s Claude AI model and is reportedly capable of helping families spend more time with each other or be more active. The members of a family can start a group chat on the Umi mobile app in order to set goals, create routines, manage tasks, and more. It is expected to be launched in the US this year.

Delta rolls out AI-based feature for easy travel

US-based airlines Delta has announced a new AI-powered feature on its app called Delta Concierge. It has been developed to show AI-generated reminders to users about their passport renewal dates and visa appointments. The feature is also capable of providing suggestions on what to pack, besides other general tips. Users can also ask questions on Delta Concierge to receive AI-generated responses that could make their travel experience more enjoyable.

Lenovo unveils new Yoga models, ThinkBook with rollable display

Lenovo has announced three new laptops as part of its Yoga lineup.

Yoga Book 9i 14 Gen 10: It comes with a pair of 14-inch OLED displays, weighs 2.69 pounds (1.22 kg), and packs a large, 88-watt-hour battery. It features an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor 255H, up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

The Yoga Slim 9i 14 Gen 10: The 14-inch model weighs 2.62 pounds and has a 98 per cent screen-to-body ratio according to Lenovo.It has a 4K, 120Hz PureSight Pro OLED panel and boasts an Intel Core Ultra 7 258V CPU, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB solid-state drive. It packs a 75-watt-hour battery.

Yoga 9i 2-in-1 Aura Edition 14 Gen 10: The models that are part of the Auro Edition have been jointly developed by Lenovo and Intel. It comes with “Smart” software that builds on Windows and offers customised support. It runs on Intel Core Ultra 200V series CPUs and a 2.8K OLED panel with a variable 30Hz to 120Hz refresh rate.

Lenovo also announced the Yoga Tab Plus and Yoga Tab Pro at CES 2025.

ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable: It comes with a rollable 14-inch display that can be extended to 16.7 inches with a press of a button that is on the side of the laptop. The rollable display has been designed to give users more room to multitask. It features Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors and up to 32GB of RAM. It weighs 3.7 pounds with a thickness of 0.8 inches.

Sony Honda Mobility showcases Afeela 1

Afeela 1, an EV made as a part of a collaboration between Sony and Honda, was showcased at the CES 2025. The innovative vehicle aims to offer a safe and seamless driving experience. It comes with over 40 sensors and is essentially a connected car that features Qualcomm Technologies' Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions. The car has a target range of 300 kms on a single charge. The car starts at $89,900 (around Rs 77 lakh) and also has a premium version at $102,900 (Rs 88 lakh).

HP launches OMEN AI to enhance and improve gaming experience

OMEN AI, currently in beta continues to adjust the performance of the HP gaming laptop in the background on select titles like Counter-Strike 2 that adapts and improves the settings over time to enable the highest possible performance. This is an AI-powered one-click solution that optimises OS, hardware, and game settings per video game to deliver the highest FPS.

HP also introduced the OMEN MAX 16, a 16-inch gaming laptop, powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 or the AMD Ryzen AI 9 mobile processor paired to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series GPU with support for DLSS 4.

Titan Dragon, MSI's most powerful gaming laptop

Powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX CPU and NVIDIA RTX 5090 mobile GPU, the Titan 18 HX Dragon Edition Norse Myth by MSI is the most capable gaming laptop from the company. It features an 18-inch 4K Mini LED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. While it might not have the fastest display on a gaming laptop, it is undoubtedly one of the sharpest and most colour-accurate screens in its class.

The laptop showcases hand-drawn dragon motifs and Nordic runes on the rear, along with a 3D dragon and dragon ring on the palm rest. Acer has yet to unveil the price of this device, but it is expected to cost around $5,000.

Acer announces Nitro Blaze handheld gaming console

Acer launched its first handheld gaming console, the Nitro Blaze, powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processor. The console comes in two sizes, featuring either an 8.8-inch or a 10.95-inch screen with WQXGA resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate. With 16 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of storage, the Nitro Blaze 8 and Nitro Blaze 11 will be available for purchase in Q2 2025, starting at $899.

Similarly, Acer has also launched the Nitro Mobile gaming controller. Priced at $69.99, this controller can be paired with an Android or iOS device with a screen size of up to 8.3 inches, and it supports 18W fast charging, ensuring an uninterrupted gaming experience.

AMD announces Ryzen AI Max and Max PRO series of processors for gaming and AI PCs

AMD has unveiled its new lineup of AI PC chips, catering to different price segments. The lineup includes the AMD Ryzen AI Max, AMD Ryzen AI 300 Series, and AMD Ryzen 200 Series processors, all featuring integrated Neural Processing Units (NPUs). Notably, the Ryzen AI 300 processors are the first to offer Zen-5 CPU cores, while the Ryzen 200 Series is designed for entry-level PCs.

The AMD Ryzen AI Max and Ryzen AI Max PRO series processors deliver impressive specifications, offering up to 16 Zen-5 CPU cores, up to 40 AMD RDNA 3.5 graphics compute units, and an AMD XDNA 2 Neural Processing Unit (NPU) with up to 50 TOPS of AI performance. These chips also support up to 128 GB of unified memory.

The Ryzen AI 300 Series processors feature up to 8 Zen-5 CPU cores and the latest RDNA 3.5 graphics architecture. Equipped with an industry-leading NPU powered by AMD XDNA 2 technology, the Ryzen AI 300 Series delivers up to five times better performance than the first-generation NPU, providing significant AI power.

Lastly, the Ryzen 200 PRO Series mobile processors are tailored for everyday professionals, offering efficient and exceptional performance. These processors come with up to 8 CPU cores, 16 threads, AMD RDNA 3 graphics, and up to 16 TOPS of AI performance from the dedicated NPU.

Besides, AMD also introduced Ryzen 9000 series chips for gaming products, including the Ryzen 9950X3D and 9900X3D. On top of that, it also announced Ryzen 9000 Mobile processors for gaming laptops, and AMD Ryzen Z2 for handheld gaming consoles.

NVIDIA launches RTX 50 series 'Blackwell' GPUs

NVIDIA unveiled its latest generation of desktop and laptop GPUs at CES 2025, including the GeForce RTX 5090, a $1,999 and the most powerful graphics card that the company claims is the world's fastest. Additionally, NVIDIA introduced the GeForce RTX 5080, priced at $999, the RTX 5070 Ti at $749, and the RTX 5070 at $549. All these graphics cards will be available starting later this month. Gaming laptops powered by the RTX 5070, capable of delivering gaming performance equivalent to the RTX 4090 GPU, will start at $1,299.

“We used GeForce to enable AI and now AI is revolutionizing GeForce. The new generation of DLSS can generate beyond frames, it can predict the future,” said Jensen Huang, the CEO of NVIDIA at the keynote.

Intel unveiled the new Intel Core Ultra (Series 2) processors

Intel introduced the next-generation mobile processors—Core Ultra (Series 2) with Intel vPro—which offer enhanced efficiency and performance gains. For creators and gamers, the company also unveiled the Intel Core Ultra 200HX and H Series, as well as the Intel Core Ultra 200U Series mobile processors. These processors feature up to two P-cores, eight E-cores, Intel Xe LPG graphics, and up to 24 platform TOPS of AI performance.

Intel Core Ultra 200S/H/U series processors (code-named Arrow Lake).

Intel Core 200S/H series processors (code-named Bartlett Lake S and Raptor Lake H Refresh).

Intel Core 100U series processors (code-named Raptor Lake U Refresh).

Intel Core 3 processor and Intel® Processor (code-named Twin Lake).

The Intel Core Ultra 200HX and H series mobile processors offer up to 24 cores – eight Performance-cores (P-cores) and 16 Efficient-cores (E-cores) – for the HX series and up to 16 cores – six P-cores, eight E-cores and two low-power E-cores – for series, based on the Intel’s latest core architecture with Intel Arc graphics on the H series.

Garmin introduces Instinct 3 series, its new line of ‘rugged’ smartwatches

Garimin on Monday announced its newest lineup of smartwatches designed for harsh conditions called the Instinct 3 Series. It comes with an AMOLED, solar-powered display for maximum battery life along with a metal-reinforced bezel and built-in LED flashlight. Garmin claims that the AMOLED models can go for 24 hours on a single charge in smartwatch mode.

"With trendy, limited-edition colors and a durable design, Instinct 3 is the smartwatch you can wear whenever, wherever. Packed with connected features, popular built-in sports apps and 24/7 health and wellness monitoring, the latest lineup is built to help you follow your passions—whatever they may be,” Dan Bartel, the vice president of global consumer sales at Garmin, said in a press release.

Samsung to showcase 18.1-inch foldable panel for IT devices at CES’25

Samsung is expected to reveal a range of new IT and automotive OLED products at CES 2025. The tech giant’s invite-only exhibit in Las Vegas will showcase “the world’s first 18.1-inch foldable monitor and a variety of innovative products like slidable and multi-foldable displays.”

Demo cockpits equipped with an Under Panel Camera (UPC), a bendable Center Information Display (CID), and a Head-Up Display (HUD) to replace traditional dashboards will also be part of Samsung’s display showcase at the tech show.

Microsoft’s AI assistant is coming to LG, Samsung TVs

Both LG and Samsung are looking to capitalise on the AI hype cycle by having dedicated AI sections and a shortcut to Microsoft’s Copilot web app on their latest smart TVs that were unveiled at CES 2025.

LG has said that it is adding an entire AI section to the latest models of its OLED Evo line of 4K TVs. It has also rebranded the remote as an “AI remote”. On the Copilot integration, the South Korean electronics giant said that users will be able to “efficiently find and organise complex information using contextual cues” through Microsoft’s flagship AI model.

Samsung, on the other hand, has unveiled its own offering called Vision AI, and it looks like Copilot will be a part of this section. “In collaboration with Microsoft, Samsung announced the new Smart TVs and Smart Monitors featuring Microsoft Copilot. This partnership will enable users to explore a wide range of Copilot services, including personalized content recommendations,” Samsung said in a press release.

The two brands are yet to demonstrate how exactly Copilot would work on their respective TVs.

Tech investors keeping close eye on Jensen Huang’s CES keynote

Jensen Huang, the founder and CEO of Nvidia, is set to address a packed Mandalay Bay Arena in Las Vegas at 6:20 pm PT on Monday, January 6. Both investors and tech enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting announcements on the highly anticipated Blackwell family of graphics processing units (GPUs).

Huang is expected to unveil a new ultra-fast graphics card designed to meet the needs of gamers, developers, and enterprises seeking high-performance solutions.

His CES keynote is a signal of what’s to come for investors around the world, according to Nigel Green, CEO of wealth management firm deVere Group.

“Much of this excitement centers on the upcoming CES announcements, particularly the Blackwell GPUs. These processors are critical for developers working on large language models, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, as well as applications in autonomous vehicles, healthcare, and enterprise solutions,” Green said in a statement.

“For investors, this is more than a technology story—it’s a broader economic trend with implications for global markets.[...] As the global economy continues to embrace AI-driven advancements, we believe that NVIDIA is likely to continue to lead the charge, delivering outsized returns and influencing broader market trends,” he added.

L'Oréal shows off new skincare gadget

Cell BioPrint is a tabletop device designed by beauty brand L'Oréal Groupe, and it is apparently capable of providing personalised skin analysis in five minutes. It is based on the principles of advanced proteomics, which is the study of how protein composition in the human body affects skin aging. The device has been developed in collaboration with Korean startup NanoEnTek.

The Cell BioPrint can calculate the age of a person’s skin and to offer advice on how to slow down the appearance of aging.

L’Oréal also claims that the device can help predict potential cosmetic issues such as black spots and enlarged pores before they become visible.

Samsung has announced that it will be bringing Vision AI capabilities to its new display models. “With the ability to make your Samsung TV aware of its surroundings, adaptive to user preferences, and autonomous in delivering intuitive features, Samsung Vision AI transforms screens into smart companions that enhance entertainment, simplify interactions, and seamlessly integrate into connected lifestyles,” the electronics giant said in a statement.

A few of the personalised features that come with Samsung Vision AI are:

- Click to Search: Offers instant information about what’s on screen.

- Live Translate: Uses an on-device AI translation model to deliver real-time subtitle translations.

- AI-generated wallpapers

- Home Insights: Provides real-time updates about your household environment, including safety alerts and daily updates.

- Pet and Family Care: Detects unusual behavior in both pets and family members. It also automatically adjusts room settings, like dimming the lights when a child falls asleep.

Samsung also unveiled its latest flagship Neo QLED 8K QN990F and other updates to its Lifestyle TVs.

Even G1 digital glasses neither have a camera, nor a speaker, but are still smart

LG unveils a new projector

A few days before the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), LG unveiled two new “lifestyle projectors,” which may look great in your living room but may not have the best picture quality.

- LG says the PF600U is a three-in-one device that consists of a full HD projector, a Bluetooth speaker, and a standing floor LED lamp. While the electronics giant hasn’t details about the Bluetooth speaker’s output, the LED lamp supports nine colours and five brightness levels. It weighs 7.5 kg or 8 ounces.

- LG also unveiled the Cinebeam S (PU615U), a compact 4K UHD projector that can beam 40 to 100-inch pictures. It weighs just 2.5 kg and supports stereo sound with Dolby Atmos.

The South Korean electronics giant is yet to reveal the price of both projectors, so we will have to wait for CES to kick off for more details about these products.

CES 2025: Trends and events to expect

The year’s first and possibly biggest tech show will officially kick off on the morning of Tuesday, January 7, at the Las Vegas Convention Center in the US.

Events:

- A few tech giants such as AMD and Samsung will be holding pressers a day before the official start date.

- NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang is expected to take the CES 2025 stage on Monday, January 6, at 6:30pm PT to outline how AI and accelerated computing are reshaping the future of global industries.

- The following day will see other notable keynotes from X CEO Linda Yaccarino at 1:30 pm PT and Delta CEO Ed Bastian at 5 pm PT.

Key trends:

- AI chip-makers Nvidia and AMD are expected to go head-to-head at this year’s CES. While Nvidia is likely to release its much anticipated GeForce RTX 50 GPU, AMD could show off its own next-gen GPU, which is likely to be either the RX 8000 or RX 9000 series.

- While most of the noise will be about AI, CES is also one of the year’s top automotive shows. Car makers like Toyota and Hyundai are participating. Thye are expected to showcase the latest innovations in humanoids and other robotics.

- CES also serves as a launching pad for new models of computer monitors by big-wigs such as Samsung, ASUS, and MSI.

- A bunch of smart home appliances from brands like LG are also expected to be introduced at CES 2025, along with a new iteration of smart assistants from Google, Amazon, and Apple.

- In the extended reality space that continues to be dominated by Meta’s affordable Quest headsets, big names like HTC and Magic as well as chipmaker Qualcomm are expected to make a splash.
