The original MacBook that Apple introduced in 2015 as a new product line adding to the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air may be retiring soon. According to an internal memo obtained by MacRumors, the MacBook 2015 will be added to the obsolete products list on June 30. Once classified as obsolete, its users will no longer be able to get their laptops repaired from Apple Stores and authorised service centres as parts will no longer be available. Apple typically classifies its products as obsolete after more than 7 years have elapsed since the company stops selling them officially. The MacBook 2015 was discontinued in April 2016 following the release of its successor, the MacBook 2016, which featured improved specs. When the MacBook 2015 was introduced, Apple only sold two models under the same class – the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. The MacBook 2015 was the lightest and thinnest of the three models, weighing only 0.92 kg and measuring 13.1 mm at its thickest point, which was even notably lighter and slimmer than the MacBook Air at the time. It was also Apple’s first fanless MacBook. The laptop, however, also introduced Apple’s notorious butterfly switch keyboard design, a flawed feature that plagued the MacBook lineup for years until it was finally replaced amid lawsuits and backlash.
