(Image Source: Apple)Apple is rolling out a new feature for its ‘Find My’ network, making it easier for iPhone users to track and find lost items. Dubbed ‘Share Item Location’, Apple says the functionality can help share the location of an AirTag or Find My compatible accessory with third parties such as airlines.
While Android does have a similar feature, Apple’s new feature is a bit more advanced. Available on iOS 18.2 public beta, which will soon be rolling out to iPhone Xs and newer models, Apple says the “shared location will be disabled as soon as a user is reunited with their item.” Alternatively, it can be manually stopped by the owner at any time or set to expire automatically after seven days.

Using the new feature, iPhone owners can now generate a secure link using the Find My app that shows the real-time location of a lost accessory or AirTag. This link can also be shared with third-party services like airlines, allowing them to find the lost item.
As of now, Apple says it has tied up with United, Delta, British Airways, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines United, Vueling and Virgin Atlantic’s baggage recovery process, with more airlines expected to support the functionality in the near future.
Android does allow users to share the location of lost items with others, but it has no such tie-up with airlines and you have to manually stop sharing the item location once it’s found.
