The Ministry of Information and Technology has banned 43 more Chinese apps in the country, and the most prominent name in the list is AliExpress. The ban comes under Section 69A of the Information Technology (IT) Act. Earlier we had seen apps like TikTok, Bigo Live, CamScanner, and PUBG Mobile being banned in India under the same act. In June, the government had banned 59 apps, citing threat to 'sovereignty and integrity of India'. Then in September, the government banned 118 China-based apps, and the most prominent name in the list at that time was PUBG Mobile. Since the ban, apps like PUBG Mobile, TikTok, etc are no longer working in India and not available on the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store. In July, the government had also banned clone apps of the first 59 that were on the list. Around 47 apps were included in that list. In the latest press statement, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeITY) noted, "this action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order."
