Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg recently posted on the site about a 19-year-old Indian app developer Harsh Songra, who created an app called MyChild that helps parents discover if their child has a developmental disorder.

The story is special as Harsh himself grew up with a condition called dyspraxia, writes Sandberg. But since he was born in a small town with proper access to health care, Harsh was not diagnosed until the age of nine.  Dyspraxia is a neurological disorder which results in impairment of motor, memory, judgment, processing, and other cognitive skills.

Sheryl wrote in her post, “Harsh wanted to make sure other families didn’t have to go through the same thing, so he built an app called MyChild that helps parents find out if their child might have a developmental disorder. It provides basic screening by asking simple questions – and can even recommend specialist doctors.”

Facebook’s FBStart program helped MyChild get started by providing technical support, adds Sandberg in her post.

The MyChild app is available on the Google Play Store. Harsh in his video describing the app, adds that MyChild only gives a reference for what a child might be suffering from; the app never gives a definitive yes. The app also recommends specialists whom the parents can consult to confirm the diagnosis.
