Meta owned WhatsApp is constantly testing and rolling out new features for its mobile app. Similar to Instagram Stories, a new update will soon allows users to tag or mention other WhatsApp users in their Status.
This means users will soon be able to mention and let mentioned people repost their WhatsApp Status. WhatsApp says the number of users that can be mentioned in a Status is currently capped to 5 and that it is also working on a new option that lets you tag a person without showing their name.
The Meta owned instant messaging platform is also bringing likes to Status with a single tap, which unsurprisingly works similar to Instagram’s heart button. When you like someone’s WhatsApp Status, the number of likes are private and don’t have a counter.
And for those wondering, you can also privately mention someone in your status and let them reshare with their audience. If you tag someone privately, their mention won’t appear in the status and they will be notified privately. The Mark Zuckerberg led messaging platform also said that they are working on “bringing more features to Status and the Updates tab over the next few months.”
Recently, WhatsApp was spotted testing a redesigned typing indicator for both personal and group chats, which might appear as a chat bubble within the conversation screen and enable users to see who is typing.
