With just a few days left for the holiday season, WhatsApp is rolling a bunch of new features that improve the voice and video calling experience.

WhatsApp, the go-to instant messaging platform for billions of users worldwide recently announced several new features a few days before the holiday season. In a blog post, the company said these quality-of-life changes will make it easier for users to connect with their friends and family.

Now, when users initiate a call from any group chat, they will be able to select specific participants. Previously, if users started a group call, it would automatically include everyone in the group. This means you will be able to call exactly whoever you want without disturbing others. It is useful if you want to discuss something with a group of people and don’t want to include everyone in the conversation.

Meta is also adding a bunch of new effects for video calls, bringing the total number of available effects to ten. The company also said that when users click on the calls tab on the desktop version of WhatsApp, they will now see options to start a call, create a call link or even directly dial a number. Another huge change is that irrespective of your device – desktop or mobile, video calls will be “more reliable” and have a higher resolution than before.

Last week, WhatsApp started rolling out a new three-dancing dots indicator, which, similar to other messaging platforms, appear when someone is typing in an individual or group chat. The Meta owned messaging platform also recently suffered an outage, leaving users frustrated and confused as they were unable to send or receive messages.
