WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum today announced that the instant messaging app now has 900 million monthly active users. “WhatsApp now has 900 million monthly active users,” posted Koum in his official Facebook account. WhatsApp had 700 million monthly active users in January. Within three months, WhatsApp had managed to add another 100 million, taking the count to 800 million monthly active users. Another 100 million active users were recorded within five months in September. According to official results put out by Facebook, WhatsApp lost over $138 million last year. Facebook has so far said that it has no plans of exploring a business-model like say ads with WhatsApp. On the app front, WhatsApp has matured from just an instant messaging app with features like WhatsApp calling and WhatsApp Web.
