Twitter has increased its animated GIF size limit from 5MB to 15MB.
Micro-blogging website Twitter has increased its animated GIF (graphics interchange format) size limit from 5MB to 15MB if uploaded on the web from a desktop, a media report said on Tuesday.
However, the 5MB photo limit stays the same, along with the GIF limit, for mobile uploads on Twitter. But the micro-blogging website now allows for GIFs three times the size if they are uploaded on the web from a desktop computer. The update has not made its way to TweetDeck which remains perennially behind the times when it comes to Twitter engineering improvements, The Verge reported.
Later, in the week, Twitter also opened up verification for all. Earlier, the blue tick was limited to celebrities, public figures, government functionaries and mediapersons. Now, anyone can apply as long as Twitter buys the fact that they are people of public interest. Twitter says applications are open for those who “believe your account is of public interest and should be verified, this article outlines information about submitting a request”. And let’s not forget that it will still be up to Twitter’s discretion to verify or not.
