Instagram is making changes to the profile tab, which will put more focus on the user’s profile rather than follower count. The move comes as Instagram announced last week that it will take advantage of machine learning tools to eliminate accounts that generate inauthentic likes, comments, and followers. As part of the new design, the number of followers and those users are following will appear in a smaller font size and no longer be on top of the user’s profile.
Instagram’s profile redesign will also include re-arranged features at top of the user’s profile, changes to icons, buttons and the way users navigate between tabs. The Facebook-owned company said in a blog post that it is working on these changes and will test them in phases. Instagram confirmed that photos and videos that users have changed on their grid will not change.
The changes, aimed at making profile cleaner and easier to use, will be rolled out over the next several weeks. “Your profile is where you share who you are on Instagram, so starting today we’re testing ways you can better express yourself and more easily connect with the people you care about on your profile,” Instagram said in a post.
Instagram also shared screenshots of how the user’s profile could look like in the coming weeks. For instance, the circle that contains profile picture could move to right from left side currently. Instagram Business accounts will likely get “Directions”, “Call”, ‘Start Order” buttons.
