Meta-owned social media platform Instagram is quietly rolling out the ability to schedule Direct Messages (DMs). The new feature is quite handy for individuals who want to schedule memes and text messages to ensure that they see it when awake and for creators who want to reach out to their followers at a certain point in time.

In a statement to TechCrunch, Meta confirmed that the new functionality is currently being rolled out to everyone globally. To schedule DMs on Instagram, just type out the message and long-press the send button until the ‘Schedule message’ overlay appears.

Now, set the date and time you want the message to be sent and tap on the blue send button below. One thing to note here is that Instagram lets you schedule a message up to 29 days in advance. When you schedule a message, Instagram will show you a small “scheduled message” banner at the bottom left of the conversation every time you open the chat.

When you tap on the banner, a new “Scheduled messages” overlay will appear, where you can choose the send the message right now or copy or delete it.

In the last couple of months, Instagram has been steadily adding new features like Trial Reels, nicknames, live location sharing and the ability to make sticker packs. The social media also unveiled a new ‘Add’ button that lets users add songs from reels, stories and posts to their Spotify “Liked” playlist.
