Google has extended Hindi language support to its Assistant for the Google Home smart speaker range. In a blog post, the company has confirmed the feature, adding that its digital speaker can also understand Indian contexts to its requests. Google Assistant already offers Hindi language support for smartphones, and the same will also be available for Google Home and Home mini.
The Hindi language support for Assistant can be set up from the Google Home app by tapping on the ‘Account’ icon at the lower right corner, followed by tapping ‘Settings’. From this menu, a user should choose the ‘Assistant’ option, followed by ‘Languages’, ‘Add a language’ and ‘हिंदी (भारत)’ being set as the primary language.
Google Home/Home mini owners can check for the update by saying ‘Ok Google’ followed by “आप क्या कर सक्ते हैं?”. The Assistant, though, will not be able to function in Hindi and English simultaneously. Google Assistant on Google Home will be able to answer specific queries, such as “दादर तक पहुँचने में कितना समय लगेगा?”, as well as general knowledge questions like “माउंट एवरेस्ट कितनी ऊंची है?”.

Like its English counterpart, the Hindi version of Assistant will also manage requests of news, music, weather forecasts, traffic information and stock market updates. Some examples of such queries are “बॉलीवुड के गाने चलाओ” and “आज की खबर बताओ”.
Google Home and Home mini owners who speak Hindi will also be able to give commands related to other smart home devices. Queries like “लाइट ऑन करो” are applicable to smart lights and automation systems like Philips Hue and TP-Link, and support for the same should be extended to other appliances soon.
