Facebook has started to roll-out the Slideshow feature on Android. The social networking giant has been testing the new photo sharing tool on its Android beta apps since last month, and now it has started rolling out the feature to a select number of users.
Tech blog Android Police first spotted the “Slideshow” feature for Android. The tech site noted the option appears in the same section, just above the “Tag Friends” option. When you click on the Slideshow option, it will bring up the gallery and you can choose pictures and videos from it by creating a slideshow with a theme, music in the background.

Facebook later confirmed to Techcrunch it is testing the Slideshow with a “small percentage of users” who are “are seeing it appear for the time being”. The publication further notes Facebook will make some tweaks ahead of the full public launch for the feature.
The Mark Zuckerberg-led company first introduced the Slideshow feature for its iOS app in June last year. Slideshow enables users to combine multiple photos and videos into a slideshow, complete with background music, themes and a customised title. The feature was earlier part of its Moments app, which is now defunct.
For Facebook, which has seen a drop in original content being shared on the site, features like Slideshow, and even the upcoming Stories, are ways of boosting engagement. According to reports, Facebook has already started testing Stories in Ireland, and these appear on top of the News Feed.
Facebook now has over 1.5 billion monthly active users, but personal sharing is shifting to apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Snapchat. This explains why Facebook is experimenting with new formats for content sharing on the platform. We’ll have to wait and see how soon this slideshow feature is rolled out to more users on Android.
