Jackky Bhagnani shares what his idea of freedom looks like (Source: Instagram/@jackkybhagnani)
For Jackky Bhagnani, success isn’t measured in crores – it’s measured in freedom. The freedom to take a holiday anywhere, anytime, without checking your bank balance. And to enjoy it in the best of health.
In a conversation with India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN), the actor and producer shared his definition of success. “If you can reach a stage in life where you can take a holiday wherever you want, however you want, and you don’t have to look at your bank balance, with the best of health, that is what success and happiness are for me. Otherwise, after a point, it’s a swimming pool, right?” he shared with his audience.
Delhi-based psychologist Dr Priyanka Bhosale said that people often confuse happiness with money. “Many spend their early years believing achievement equals identity. Applause feels like purpose, and validation appears to be the antidote to insecurity. But often, the realisation arrives quietly, after the promotion that doesn’t feel as fulfilling as expected, after the fatigue that no holiday can truly erase,” she told indianexpress.com.

According to her, early adulthood is driven by external markers of success, but midlife often brings a deeper awareness of emotional needs. People begin questioning not just what they are doing, but why. And this is where transformation starts.
“Work is no longer about proving your worth, but about expressing it. The mind becomes gentler, ambition is more focused, and fulfilment takes the place of comparison. True success feels less like climbing and more like reaching a place where you are closer to yourself, your values, and your sense of inner alignment,” she said. That is also why the psychologist stressed the importance of caring for both your physical and mental well-being.
The body undeniably ages with time, but it also responds to our emotional climate. “When a person lives in a state of constant urgency, rushing, worrying, and performing, the nervous system remains in a state of alert. Cortisol spikes, sleep becomes fragmented, inflammation rises, and the body gradually loses its ability to repair itself,” she told indianexpress.com.
In fact, Dr Bhosale added that autonomy gives people a sense of control over their lives. “When you feel you can choose your direction, your mind relaxes. You aren’t acting out of fear or obligation,” she added.
Financial discipline is key to securing your future. According to Mukesh Pandey, director of Rupyaa Paisa, it is the ability to make sound financial decisions, always be within budgets, and avoid impulsive spending so that, all the while, one is steadily moving toward set goals.
Pandey emphasised that budgeting isn’t just about cutting costs, it’s about gaining financial freedom. “Instead of chasing momentary happiness, today’s youth are rewriting their financial stories through self-discipline and vision. It’s not about forgoing experiences but redefining their value,” he said.
Pandey’s advice is to efficiently allocate saved money to areas of long-term value and stability. “One way is investing in mutual funds, a retirement plan, or a high-yield savings account. Another option is to chip money saved into skill-based courses, training and certificates, and even build starter capital for entrepreneurial ventures,” he said.
