Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ update rolls out, includes Android November 2018 security patch

Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ users in Europe have begun receiving the Android November 2018 security patch with its latest update.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ have started to receive the Android November 2018 security patch, as reported by SamMobile. So far, the update appears to be available in Europe, though the same can be expected over other regions soon. While the update is expected to bring performance enhancements and feature-specific improvements, details of the same remain unknown.

SamMobile reports that Galaxy S9/S9+ users from Germany and Spain have received the G965FXXS2BRJ6 version update. The update has been rolled out to other Samsung devices such as Galaxy J7 Prime, and fixes a total of 34 vulnerabilities.

One of these vulnerabilities would have let attackers use a special file to run arbitrary code, while the notification leaks issue has also been fixed. Besides this, users will also find fixes to eight Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. Users can check for the updates by going through Settings > Software update > Download updates manually.

Currently, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are being tested for One UI, based on Android Pie, announced at the Samsung Developer Conference. The South Korean company confirmed that these phones, along with Galaxy Note 9, will be the first Samsung devices to receive stable versions of Android 9 Pie. The same would be extended to Galaxy S8/S8+ and the Note 8 early next year.

Featuring a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display, Galaxy S9+ comes with a screen aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Powered by the Exynos 9810 processor, it is based on Experience UI over and above Android 8.1 Oreo, and has a 3500mAh battery with support for QuickCharge 2.0. Galaxy S9+ is available with 6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage variants. The phone offers a fingerprint scanner at the back, as well as Face Unlock through the front camera.

Galaxy S9+ has rear camera configuration consisting of 12MP+12MP Dual Pixel sensors with variable aperture, while it also has an 8MP front camera with f/1.7 aperture.
