Panasonic’s mobility division head Pankaj Rana told IndianExpress.com that the company is seeing more than 50 per cent monthly growth in the business. “We plan to launch close to 20 smartphones around the festive season (Diwali) in India and will have phones from Rs 3,000 to Rs 20,000 price-range,” said Rana.

He added the company does not just wish to target the budget segment. “Our smartphones are meant for the youth of India and we really wish to establish ourself in the Rs 10,000-Rs 20,000 price band,” he said.

Asked about competition from Chinese players, Rana said the company is going aggressive on offline retail so at to reach more consumers. “With brick and mortar stores we can reach a lot more users. Also the advantage is that when a consumer goes to the store, there is someone from Panasonic who can explain and talk about the device. We are firmly targeting the offline retail mode,” said Rana.
