Chinese smartphone major Oppo showcased the new version of their VOOC fast charging technology, which can now fully charge a phone in under 15 minutes. Despite all the developments in smartphones over the past few years, power management has been a pain for companies as well as users. As some companies push the size of their batteries, other are looking at better ways to charge these batteries and Oppo appears to have gone with the latter.

Super VOOC Flash Charge is an improvement on the VOOC Flash Charge, originally introduced by the company in 2014, and now used by 18 million Oppo customers. This could offer users two hours of talk time after just five minutes of charging. Super VOOC, however, could charge a 2500 mAh battery to 57 per cent in just five minutes and take it to 100 per cent in just over 15.

Interestingly, Oppo uses a 5V low-voltage pulse-charge algorithm, which keeps the battery temperature really low.

Another interesting technology announcement from Oppo was the SmartSensor Image Stabilisation, which the company claims is the first ever sensor-based, pixel-level optical image stabiliser in a smartphone. Till now all image stabilisations on offer on smartphones have been lens-based.

The new Oppo technology relies on MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) and offers three axis stabilisation — pitch, yaw and roll. The company claims it will make “split-second adjustments with its comb-shaped monocrystalline silicon MEMS” to achieve full three-axis image stabilization in a mere 15 milliseconds.
