At the Indian Mobile Congress 2023, Reliance Jio unveiled a new feature phone named ‘JioPhone Prima 4G’. As the name suggests, the network operator’s latest feature phone offers 4G connectivity and runs on KaiOS,
To give you a quick recap, KaiOS is an open-source operating system based on Firefox OS that was developed for phones with keypads and keyboards.
While there may not be a lot of apps available for phones running KaiOS compared to Android and iOS, it supports popular apps like WhatsApp, YouTube, Google Maps and Facebook to name a few. You also get some Jio apps like Jio Cinema, JioTV and JioChat.
JioPhone Prima 4G is powered by an ARM Cortex A53 processor and comes with 512MB RAM, which should be more than enough for a feature phone. It has a 2.4-inch screen that is backed by a 1,800mAh battery. What’s interesting is that the device comes with both front and rear cameras and an LED torch.
You also get a huge circular button with a microphone icon on the keypad, but Jio is yet to clarify what it does. The phone has a microSD card slot that lets users expand storage up to 128GB and a single SIM slot. On the connectivity side of things, it offers a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth 5.0.
JioPhone Prima 4G will be available through official channels and JioMart for Rs 2,599.
