The back of the phone has a six-pin connector that can be used to add or remove cases. These cases add to the device functionality, similar to how Motorola did years ago with Moto Mods for the Moto Z lineup. HMD says these outfits can change the hardware and software features of the phone and even help enhance the performance of the device.
HMD also unveiled three new outfits – Flashy, Rugged, and Casual. As the name suggests, the Flashy Outfit adds a built-in ring light to both the front and rear camera, allowing users to customise the lighting and the camera effects using the built-in camera app.
Designed for outdoor adventures, the Rugged outfit adds IP68 dust and water resistance alongside support for wireless charging and an in-case-of-emergency (ICE) button. Since the phone is only available in one colour, black, if you are looking to change the look of the device, the Casual Outfits might come in handy. Available in a wide range of colours, HMD says these outfits add to the protection of the device while letting users change the look.
The company also introduced Fusion Kit, an open-source software and hardware developer kit that lets you create your very own mods for the phone.
Powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, HMD says its latest budget phone also supports Gen2 repairability, allowing users to quickly replace or fix broken parts like the display, back cover, battery and charging port.
Featuring a 90Hz 6.56-inch LCD screen with HD+ resolution and 600 nits brightness, HMD Fusion comes with 256GB storage and up to 8GB RAM. You can also plug-in a microSD card to increase the storage by up to 1TB.
The phone houses a rear dual camera setup that consists of an 108MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor while the front of the device houses a 50MP selfie shooter.
Running on Android 14 out of the box, HMD has promised two years of OS updates and three years of security patches. Also, unlike most modern phones, you get a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button. The phone offers IP52 resistance and packs a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging.
HMD Fusion will be available on the company’s website soon in the UK with a starting price tag of 249 EUR, which is Rs 24,000 approximately. However, the outfits will be available sometime later at the end of the year.
