Thanks to massive deals and discounts on Flipkart and Amazon, many of you would have bought your first iPhone, possibly at an unbeatable price, and will be migrating from an Android phone. Compared to an Android smartphone, however, the iPhone functions a lot differently and needs a bit of a workaround to ensure optimal performance.

If you are one such user who recently bought an iPhone, here are five things that you should immediately consider.

Create an Apple ID

If it is your first iPhone or an Apple product, then there is a high chance that you might not have an Apple ID, a digital account that binds with your Apple product to offer a seamless user experience. To ensure ease of usage, we recommend using your primary email to create an Apple ID along with the phone number that you might want to use on that very iPhone.

While one can set up a brand new iPhone without an Apple ID, to access most of the features such as Apple Store, iCloud, and other services such as TV+ and music, one needs an Apple ID. With every new ID, Apple includes a complimentary 5 GB of iCloud storage, which can be used to back up your iPhone, WhatsApp messages, and multimedia.

Transfer your WhatsApp data

Install the Move to iOS app on your Android smartphone and transfer all the app data, especially that of WhatsApp while setting up the iPhone. Once your iPhone is fully set up, you will not be able to transfer the data, unless you are ready to reset the iPhone just to transfer WhatsApp data. Depending on the amount of data, it could take anywhere between a few minutes to a couple of hours to fully transfer WhatsApp data.

As WhatsApp uses Google Drive for cloud backup on Android and iCloud on iPhone, it’s impossible to import WhatsApp data after the iPhone has been configured; otherwise, you will lose all your precious chats.

Install your favourite apps and games

There is a notion that one needs to pay for apps on the iPhone, which is not true. In fact, almost every app that is free on Android is also free on iOS, with a few exceptions. While upgrading from an iPhone, almost everything will be transferred seamlessly, including apps; however, that is not the case with Android and one has to manually download certain apps from the app store.

Redeem Apple TV+ and Apple Music subscriptions

Apple currently offers three months of Apple TV+ subscription for new iPhone buyers and one month of Apple Music subscription for free. Make sure to redeem these exclusive Apple services before you decide to subscribe to the same.

Get a screen protector and insurance

Even though you might not want to use a protective case with your brand-new iPhone, we recommend getting a screen protector to protect the precious screen on your new smartphone. While iPhone screens have gotten better over the years, they are still susceptible to scratches, and the permanent scratches on your iPhone from pocket items like keys and coins can leave marks or even permanently damage the screen. Instead of getting a fairly expensive screen protector, we recommend going with general tempered glass and replacing it once a year.

If you want to extend the warranty of your iPhone, you can also consider Apple Care+, which adds two additional years of warranty along with accidental damage protection. However, this has to be done within 60 days of purchasing your iPhone.
