At the ‘I’s Glowtime’ event in Apple Park, Cupertino, California, the tech giant unveiled the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus. The latest iPhones from Apple are powered by the in-house A18 Bionic chipset. The new A18 chipset consists of two performance cores along with four efficiency cores, which the company claims is 30 per cent faster and more power efficient than the iPhone 15.
Apple has also updated the GPU, which it says is 40 per cent faster than the iPhone 15’s A16 chipset. The vanilla iPhone 16 comes with a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen whereas the iPhone 16 Plus boasts a 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen. While both phones can go up to 2,000 nits brightness under direct sunlight, they still have a 60Hz refresh rate.
The new iPhones run with iOS 18 out of the box with support for Apple Intelligence features. The back of both phones houses a vertically aligned dual camera setup that comprises of 48MP main “Fusion” camera that can also capture photos in 2x with optical-level zoom and a 12MP ultrawide sensor that now supports auto-focus and also acts as a macro shooter. Alongside spatial videos, the new iPhone can now click spatial photos.
The new smartphones also come with two new physical buttons. The iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus now have the Action button from the iPhone 15 Pro series alongside a new tactile Camera Control button that offers easy access to the camera and even lets you control certain camera features by simply swiping over the button.
Since the button is capacitive, it can be used to either swipe to trigger certain actions like zoom, press lightly twice to bring up options and even press it to quickly take a picture. The Camera control button can also be used to search for images on the internet, click a photo and get information about it and even add the image to your calendar. While the base variant of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus comes with 128GB storage, the most expensive model comes with 512GB of onboard storage.
Apple iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will be available in 5 colourways – ultramarine, teal, pink, white and black and start from Rs 79,900 and Rs 89,900 respectively.
