Scientists should work towards promoting technologies,which are wealth and employment generators,in rural areas,Atomic Energy Commission chairman Anil Kakodkar said here on Wednesday.
“We need to work with external stakeholders and the end users directly in order to push the technologies developed at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for wealth and employment generation in rural India,” Kakodkar said at a two-day national symposium ‘BARC technologies for development of rural India’ which began here on Wednesday.
BARC has developed several technologies which are useful for rural areas and the Centre should promote all the useful technologies for the benefit of the rural masses,he said giving examples of technologies like biodigester ‘Nisargruna’ for processing wet garbage,solar dryers,water purifiers,Trombay oilseeds and pulses varieties.
Speaking on the occasion,Rural Development secretary Sudhir Thakare said the government will encourage those technologies which are affordable to people.
BARC director Srikumar Banerjee said the centre is taking efforts to make available Solar Tower for power generation and solar collector for heating pipes in rural areas.
Several NGOs,farmers and agricultural scientists from across the country are attending the symposium.
