Nintendo fans are in for a treat as the annual Nintendo Direct event is finally here. The 40-minute presentation, as usual, was absolutely jampacked with videogame announcements and trailers for the Switch. Let’s take a look at some of the most notable titles.
The highlight of the show was Super Mario Bros. Wonder – a new 2D Mario game with several thrilling elements, including a new power-up that turns the legendary plumber into an elephant. But perhaps the biggest surprise was Wonder Flowers which trigger unexpected things in the Mario world like pipes coming to life. The list of playable characters is now also lengthier than ever, with Mario, Luigi, Toad, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, and Yoshi all being pickable. The game releases on Switch on October 20.
Metal Gear Solid Collection Vol. 1, which was earlier announced, now has an official release date. It features Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, as well as the graphic novels based on the first two games. These games are coming to the Nintendo Switch on October 24. With the right price tag, the collection could offer endless hours of fun and excitement.

Pikmin fans have been long waiting for a new title, especially considering that the previous original release was way back in 2013 on the Wii U. The wait finally comes to an end on July 21 with Pikmin 4. Featuring the same elements that made previous iterations so fun, Pikmin had an especially lengthy part of the showcase dedicated to it. In the game, you take on the role of Captain Olimar, a friendly Hocotatian who commands a loyal army of leaf-headed creatures. They assist him in various tasks and battles, while also looking irresistibly cute. Meanwhile, the HD versions of Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 are headed to the Nintendo eShop today.
That said, the Mario franchise is not done just yet. A remaster of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon and a new game starring Princess Peach will be arriving in 2024, following the release of a remake of SNES’ Super Mario RPG on November 17, 2023.
The Nintendo Switch will also welcome the entire Rocksteady Batman trilogy – Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight – along with all their DLCs this fall.
Of course, these are only a few of the games announced at the Direct event, so if you are interested in the complete thing, you’d want to watch the highlights on YouTube.
