MSI recently announced the Claw 8 AI Plus, a new handheld gaming console that will take on the newly unveiled ROG Ally X. Compared to its predecessor (MSI Claw), which was launched just three months ago, Claw 8 AI Plus features a faster chipset, a bigger battery and a larger screen.
The company also announced the limited edition Fallout version of the MSI Claw powered by the older Intel Meteor Lake chipset. The Fallout edition comes with a rusted-looking back and front panel, but apart from an increased battery capacity, other specification may be same.
The MSi Claw Fallout edition is avilable in limited quantities. (Express Photo)MSI Claw 8 AI Plus ditches the Intel Meteor Lake-based chip in favour of the brand new Lunar Lake ones, but MSI did not confirm which processor it will use. The company is also bumping up the display size from a 7-inch IPS LCD screen to an 8-inch IPS screen but the resolution and refresh rates are still limited to 1080p and 120Hz.
Compared to Meteor Lake, Intel’s newly launched Lunar Lake chips offer almost 50 per cent more performance. The XE2 GPU also draws less power but offers the same performance, but we will have to wait for benchmarks to see the real figures.
According to Digital Trends, the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus will come with up to 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD, bringing it on par with the ROG Ally X.MSI also seems to have added two Thunderbolt ports on the top and redesigned the triggers and the external shell.
Similar to the ROG Ally X, the MSI Claw 8 AI Plus will also pack an 80Wh battery. The bigger battery and less power consumption might help improve the battery life, which happens to be one of the main reasons why handheld gaming devices haven’t gained mainstream popularity.
MSI said that the Claw 8 AI Plus will be available for purchase sometime in September, but did not share any information about the price.
