Xiaomi, in collaboration with Hasbro has developed a special edition on Mi Pad 2 that actually turns into a Transformer.

Xiaomi, in collaboration with Hasbro has developed a special edition on Mi Pad 2 that actually turns into a Transformer. Soundwave is the 7mm thick tablet that turns into a robot, thanks to a built-in 30-step folding assembly.

Xiaomi VP, Hugo Barra shared the details, alongwith pictures in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “Instead of a vehicle transforming into a robot, this time, it’s Mi Pad 2 that gets the Transformers treatment. How cool is that?” he said.

Transformers special edition Mi Pad 2 is a crowd project developed for the company’s Mi Fans and will only be available in China for now. Soundwave is not a working unit. Xiaomi also tweeted out about the Transformer Mi Pad 2 saying, there’s more to Mi than meets the eye. Check out the tweet here:

Xiaomi hasn’t shared details of its availability except that its starts shipping May 13 for 169 Yuan (Rs 1,700 approx). “R&D worked really hard to ensure that the color, details and feel are exactly the same as Mi Pad 2,” Hugo Barra said.

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 was launched in November last year in silver, grey and champagne gold colour variants.

The device features a full metal body, a 7.9-inch screen with 2045×1536 pixels resolution. It runs the Intel Atom 64-bit X5-Z8500 2.24Ghz processor with Intel HD graphics. It has 2GB RAM and will come in 16GB and 64GB options.

Mi Pad 2 also comes with an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 5 megapixel front camera. It has a 6190mAh battery and supports USB Type-C charging.
