Krutrim Si Designs, an Indian startup founded by Ola CEO Bhavesh Agarwal today announced that the beta version of its Krutrim AI chatbot is now available to everyone. The new chatbot takes input in the form of text and can answer queries, similar to Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The public beta of Krutrim AI comes just a month after the newly founded raised $50 million last month, making it the first homegrown company in India to reach unicorn status. Earlier this month, Bhavesh Agarwal said that the chatbot would be available to all last week, but the company seems to have pushed back the rollout for reasons unknown.
Krutrim comes in two versions – Krutrim and Krutrim Pro. The non-pro version of the AI chatbot can understand 22 Indian languages and respond in 10 languages including English, Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Kannada, Tamil and even Hinglish.

It scores a bit higher than other models like GPT-4 and Llama when it comes to benchmarks for Indian languages. For those wondering, the Pro version is advertised as a multi-model for enterprise use and will be launched sometime in Q2 2024. Agarwal says Krutrim AI is trained on 20x more Indian tokens and responds to voice commands.
The startup also announced that Krutrim AI will be available sometime in February, allowing developers and companies to integrate their products and services with the app. Krutrim AI currently requires users to sign up using an Indian phone number, so if you don’t have one, then you are out of luck for now.
1. To use Krutrim AI, head over to the website and sign up for the service using your phone number.
2. Now, type in the OTP you received from Ola, press the ‘Confirm’ button and choose the language you want to use.
3. On the screen that appears, you will get a pop-up that warns users to avoid seeking advice from the chatbot and check facts.
4. Click on Okay and you will be able to ask the chatbot anything you want to by typing your query in the bottom bar.
One thing to keep in mind is that Krutrim is still in beta and is limited to information before September 2021, so make sure you double-check facts as it might hallucinate.
