Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced on his broadcast channel that the feature is currently available to a handful of creators and users as an ‘early test’ in the United States.
Zuckerberg said that eligible users might start seeing AIs from their favourite creators and interest-based AIs in the coming weeks on Instagram and that “they will primarily show up in messaging for now, and will be clearly labeled as AI.”
In the broadcast, the Meta chief also showcased a bunch of examples that featured conversations with AI-powered creator chatbots. He said Instagram has worked with creators of the meme account ‘Wasted’ and Don Allen Stevenson III to bring early versions of these AI-powered chatbots.
These AI chatbots can be useful for creators with a large number of followers since they can interact with the community on their behalf and reply to messages.
Zuckerberg said that Instagram creators can tap the ‘Message’ button to start a conversation with users and that users will see a notice at the top indicating that the messages are generated by AI and therefore “may be inaccurate or inappropriate.”
The creator’s name will also have an ‘AI’ prefix and a ‘beta’ suffix. Zuckerberg said that Instagram has been closely working with eligible creators to build these chatbots so that they can help these creators answer common questions posed by their followers.
Last year, Meta launched AI Studio, a platform that enabled business owners to build AI-powered chatbots for various messaging services like Messenger, Facebook, and Instagram.
