Google now automatically generates AI Overviews for certain queries. (Image Source: Google)Google recently announced that it started testing a new feature that merges AI Overviews with AI Mode, letting users ask follow-up questions or get more information about a topic with a single click.
In a post on X, Robby Stein, the VP of Google Search, said that the integration offers “a new way to seamlessly go deeper in AI Mode directly from the Search results page on mobile.” He added that the merger of AI Mode with AI Overviews will enable users to ask whatever they want to without having to think about how to phrase their questions.
Until now, users had to think ahead about what type of questions they were preparing to search for or manually click on the AI Mode tab to start talking to the Gemini-powered chatbot. By bringing together both features, it looks like Google wants to know if it makes sense to keep these features separate or merge them together.

This brings us closer to our vision for Search: just ask whatever’s on your mind – no matter how long or complex – and find exactly what you… pic.twitter.com/mcCS7oT2FI

As you can see in the video above, Google Search now lets you dive into AI Mode by simply clicking on the ‘Show more’ button and then tapping on the “Dive deeper in AI Mode” option. While the merger of AI Mode and AI Overview will help users get answers faster, it might lead to even fewer clicks from Google Search to publishers and websites.
Apart from the new test, Google is also bringing Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro in Google Search to around 120 countries and territories in English. However, it will be limited to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.
