Or Shawn Michaels and British Bulldog and Tatanka? Trump cards in the time of WWF (back before it became WWE) were some of sport’s earliest collectibles that helped make the sport of pro wrestling and shenanigans, famous.
Archery could be reviving a bit of that nostalgia.
Mixed team compound archery got included in the Olympics last year, and Mike Schloesser teamed up with Samne de Last to pick the first gold medal at Gwangju World Archery Championships – the first since Olympics status.
Archery might be the first of sports to kick off the sports cards trend for the fringe Olympic sports.
Now Dutchman Schloesser, Mr Perfect, has become one of the first athletes to get stacked up as a ‘Series One’ card in a pack brought out by Titan to celebrate global archery legends.
“This is just the beginning – our Series aone packs feature an incredible lineup of archery’s biggest names, and we’ll be revealing more names soon,” the Series One social media revealed.
Earlier the socials proclaimed, “This isn’t just a card – it’s the future of the game. Built for athletes. Made for collectors. Designed to last forever.”
Sporting memorabilia- equipment – is quite popular, but Titan looks like it is attempting to revive a 90s staple when wrestling got equally famous for its pantomime choke slams as for the trump card that got traded.
Now in the age of collectibles and Non fungible treasures, this is another way to popularise the sport which remains low-key.
“Too often the ones who give their all to the sport are left behind,” the titansportshq handle said, stating this was an investment behind the athletes. We built our platform so archers can finally see rewards of their dedication, passion and discipline. Every card sold puts money in their pockets and more momentum in their careers.”
Designed in classy sepia and aqua blue and snow white, the variables are the rank, accolades, eye popping scores.
Schloesser also launched his tee shirt range for fans to strap on and follow him at various tournaments.
Phil Knall, Kim Woojin, Mathias Fullerton, Ella Gibson, Brady Ellison were given their cards at the World’s, while triple Olympic champion and world record holder Lim Si Hyeon even received the payout.
“When you get given a present that you don’t even mind your world’s are over,” Gibson wrote, after seeing her card.
