LSG vs PBKS Highlights, Who Won Yesterday’s IPL Match?: Punjab Kings cruise to an eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow’s Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday in what was the LSG’s first home game of IPL 2025.
Here’s a quick breakdown of how the match panned out and what were the biggest talking points:
Punjab Kings won the toss and asked the host team Lucknow Super Giants to bat first. Things went badly for the Lucknow outfit from the start as they lost the wicket of Mitchell Marsh in the opening over, thanks to Arshdeep Singh. While Aiden Markram started to time the ball well, Lockie Ferguson sent him back for 28 runs. LSG limped to the end of powerplay overs with just 39 runs on board but having lost three wickets, including that of captain Rishabh Pant. Nicholas Pooran (44 runs) and Ayush Badoni (41) were the top scorers on the night for Lucknow Super Giants, while a late 12-ball 27-run blitz from Abdul Samad helped LSG score 171 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Arshdeep Singh was the destroyer-in-chief for Punjab, cleaning up three wickets.
When Punjab came out to bat, they looked like they were playing on a different pitch altogether as they chased down the target with eight wickets in hand (and with more than three overs to spare). While they did lose opener Priyansh Arya early for just 26 runs on board, Punjab did not lose their second wicket will there were 110 runs scored. It was the devastating batting of player-of-the-match Prabhsimran Singh (who scored 69 runs off just 34 balls on the night), skipper Shreyas Iyer (unbeaten 52 off 30), and Nehal Wadhera (43 not out off 25) that helped the visitors glide over the finish line without sweat.
Punjab Kings are unbeaten in the league after winning their two away games. They are second in the IPL 2025 standings with a NRR of 1.485. Lucknow Super Kings meanwhile are 6th in the table with just one win from their three games so far.
Later, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant said they were “still assessing the conditions at our home ground.”
“The idea was to get a slow wicket. I think the slower balls were sticking in. We got to learn from this game and move forward,” he said.
LSG team mentor Zaheer Khan went a few steps ahead, slamming the pitch curator at Lucknow.
“What was a little disappointing for me here. Considering it’s a home game and in IPL you’ve seen how teams have looked at taking a little bit of home advantage, from that point of view you’ve seen the curator is not really thinking that it’s a home game. I think maybe it looked like, you know, it was Punjab curator out here,” Zaheer said at the press conference.
