Shreyas Iyer reveals he fought through finger injury while batting for PBKS vs RR: ‘Got hit while practising’

Despite not being on the field, Iyer was quite animated at the boundary line near the PBKS dugout. He said that he was just trying to make sure that the players keep up a positive body language. “I was just passing on the message to all the players to keep a positive body language, you tend to drop and feel the game has gone away from you, but I am proud of every player out there to show that sort of great and bold approach,” he said.

Shashank Singh and Nehal Wadhera scored superb half centuries as Punjab Kings posted 219/5. PBKS rebuilt via Wadhera and captain first before Shashank’s fine innings lower down the order. After opting to bat first, PBKS reached 58/3 at the end of the powerplay, with Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh and Mitch Owen the batters dismissed.

RR seemed set to make a mockery of the steep target with precocious teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal powering them to a score of 89/1 in the powerplay. However, it was all downhill for RR after both Suryavanshi and Jaiswal fell either side of the powerplay with Harpreet Brar putting the breaks on the batting side. The rest of the RR lineup couldn’t take them past the finish line despite a fighting half century by Dhruv Jurel.
