‘There’s a lot of pressure if you work or play at a top club’: Arne Slot after Liverpool lose 1-4 to PSV in Champions League

Even with big money signings, Liverpool are currently 12th in the standings, 11 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot admitted he was feeling the pressure after the Reds lost yet another match, this time in the Champions League against PSV on Wednesday night. What makes it even worse is that this was Liverpool’s third consecutive match where they have conceded 3 or more goals with Slot’s team losing 1-4 to PSV, 0-3 to Manchester City and 0-3 to Nottingham Forest.

“There’s a lot of pressure if you work or play at a top club and even more so if you start losing more games than this club, or these players or this manager, is used to. So then there’s always pressure. But there was a lot of pressure last season as well for us to win the league and now it’s a different kind of pressure because we’ve lost so many games,” Slot said.

Slot, who started his Premier League life with a bang last season after waltzing to the title, is now witnessing why the league is one of the most competitive ones in the world. Even with big money signings, Liverpool are currently 12th in the standings, 11 points behind league leaders Arsenal. They have already lost 6 matches of their last 7 league games and are almost certain to lose the title.

Liverpool next travel to West Ham on Sunday in danger of being cut further adrift in the title race.

“We fight on and we try to improve. That’s what we all try,” Slot said. “In the end it’s about doing what this club is about, keep fighting and no matter how difficult it is, we have to fight together,” Slot said.

The goalkeeper Alisson is back in training for Liverpool after missing the PSV game due to illness and Wirtz could train ahead of the West Ham game after a muscle issue. Slot said the back problem that forced Hugo Ekitike off against PSV was not expected to be a “big issue.”
