IPL 2026 PBKS Retained and Released Players List: It’s rare that Punjab Kings enter an IPL auction with not much work to do, but that’s how it will be this time as the franchise retained most of their core and have only four slots to fill. Australian duo of Glenn Maxwell and Josh Inglis were the two key players they released. Among Indians, they let go of Kuldeep Sen and Praveen Dubey.
Last year for the mega auctions, Punjab had released every player but Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh and entered the auctions with a fat purse. They used that to splurge on Shreyas Iyer, who was not retained by KKR after making them champions in the 2024 edition. They even used their RTM to bring back Arshdeep Singh, their star pacer. With Rs 11.5 crore in their purse, they’d perhaps be among the many teams eyeing the services of Cameron Green. They’ll be facing a lot of competition for the allrounder.
peaking about the retention, Head coach Ricky Ponting said in a statement, “We had a great IPL season last year and it happened because of every single player, and thus, I would like to first thank the released players for their contribution to the team. We will now be aggressively looking to secure high-quality overseas players in the auction, who perfectly plug the defined gaps in our middle-order power-hitting and all-rounder departments. This measured approach, centered on a settled core, is designed to build a deep, balanced squad capable of challenging for the IPL title.”
When there is a mega auction, there is a limit to the number of players, be it overseas or the Indians, that the squads can retain. But this time around, as it is not a mega auction, teams can retain around as many players as they wish to. Despite the flexible rules, the franchises need to have 25 players, and the purse for each franchise will be around 120 crores.
