India vs Bangladesh Highlights, 1st Test Day 2: IND lead by 308 runs on Day 2 Stumps after Bumrah 4-fer helps dismiss BAN early

Rishabh Pant with a couple of his trademark spin shots to up the run rate. Down on one leg, brooms away a Shakib Al Hasan length ball for four to follow with a straight six over the bowler's head. A sight for the sore eyes this. Rishabh Pant, Test cricket missed you! After 22 overs, India are 80/3.

Bangladesh persist with their spinners and it pays off with another wicket. Virat Kohli pulls one in front of square for four but Mehidy Hasan Miraz traps him leg before wicket off just the next ball. Another off-spin dismissal for India's number four. Got beaten on the inside edge and it kept low as well. The umpire took his time but eventually raised his finger. Kohli does have a word with Gill but decides to not go for a review. India, 67/3 as Day 2 nears an end.

Hang on a minute though, the replays and a snicko-meter shows a spike. Was the bat touching the ground at the same time though? "Only one person could've known that on the ground," quips Ravi Shastri on the comms. 

Since the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 7th over, Bangladesh haven't come close to taking another wicket. India looking flawless in their dealing with the spinners. Bangladesh running quickly through their overs but India aren't fazed by it. 

17 runs in the last eight overs - four each by Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. India are 60/2 after 17 overs, leading by 287 runs.

Woah! This is quite something. Shubman Gill crosses 3000 international runs....since 2023. What an asset has he been over the past couple of years. One of the few all format features of the caravan that is the Indian cricket. 

Shakib Al Hasan into the attack, so spin from both ends. Neither Gill nor Kohli in a hurry here. Just negotiating with every ball as it comes, taking singles every now and then, punishing the odd ball. Like the sweep shot Gill dispatches off Mehidy Hasan Miraz's length ball. 56/2 after 14 overs.

Spin introduced into the attack as we move into the final few minutes of Day 2. Mehidy Hasan Miraz with the ball. Bangladesh would want at least another wicket before the Stumps. 

Kohli brings up the fifty for India. Going by their bowling prowess earlier in the day, India would feel supremely comfortable at the moment. 50/2 after 12 overs. 

Virat Kohli has joined Shubman Gill in the middle, and got his first boundary of the game. A lovely execution of his trademark flick shot for four, bissecting the mid wicket and mid on.

Shubman Gill then takes o Nahid Rana. The latter delivers a 144KPH short ball and Gill meets it with a superbly timed backfoot punch. Then, an authoritative pull shot to deal with a short ball. After 10 overs, the hosts are 46/2 as the lead grows to 273 runs.

Nahid Rana to Yashasvi Jaiswal, a delivery that seams marginally away from the left hander, takes an outside edge and Litton Das pouches onto it behind the stumps. Both Indian openers are back in the hut. Good comeback from Bangladesh after the initial few boundaries. Seven overs gone, India are 28/2.

Among the Indian batters who'd have been left dejected on Day 1 was Shubman Gill, who was removed without adding a run to the total. He gets his first boundary off a Taskin Ahmed back of a length delivery with a neatly executed punch for four. Just the kind of shot he'd need to feel good in the middle. After six overs, the score reads 23/1.

Oh that's deja vu for the Indian skipper. Similar to his dismissal yesterday. 

A delivery close to the off stump to force him to poke, induces an outside edge and Zakir Hasan completes the catch in the slip cordon. Just the start Bangladesh wanted. After three overs, India are 16/1 as Shubman Gill accompanies Yashasvi Jaiswal in the middle.

Hasan Mahmud scampers in from the other end. His first delivery is back of length, and too straight, and Rohit Sharma doesn't need a second invite to hop onto it. A neat clip backward of the square leg fielder for four. Third boundary for India off their first seven deliveries. 15/0 after two overs as the lead grows to 242. 

The Indian openers make their way into the middle. More friendly conditions on offer for them than yesterday is what we're being told. And Yashasvi Jaiswal unveils a couple of cracking strokes to validate the same. 

A back-foot scythe between backward point and gully and a sensual cover drive - both for four runs. 10 runs come off Taskin Ahmed's opening over.

If Bumrah won't get you, Siraj will.

Having survived the former in the previous over, Nahid Rana's luck didn't last a delivery longer as Mohammed Siraj cleaned him up off the first ball of the 48th over. And that's that for Bangladesh, all out for 149. Rohit Sharma slips in a light word with Mehidy Hasan Miraz at the other end. It's confirmed on comms: India will bat again, as expected.

Okay, here's a nice little plotline. Nahid Rana, Bangladesh's number 11, playing his first Test in India is on strike as Jasprit Bumrah steams in. And the pace spearhead starts off with a fiery short one. This, having seen the barrage of bouncers that were dealt with by Taskin Ahmed before a quick yorker cleaned him up. 

And then, a twist. Back-to-back boundaries from Rana off Bumrah. The first one comes off a thick inside edge off a slower cutter. The next one though, is a sliced shot by making room outside the leg stump to deal with a low full toss. A wry smile from Bumrah, who follows it up with a quick inswinger that misses the leg stump. 149/9, and Rana will keep the strike as Siraj comes in.

Ashwin and Jadeja slip in another couple of overs in no time. The home boy, who scored his second Test hundred at Chepauk the other day, is yet to make a mark with the ball. 

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who has been on strike for 45 deliveries now keeping holding the fort by keeping as much strike to himself as possible. After 45 overs, Bangladesh are 134/9.

The commentator's curse strikes again, as does Jasprit Bumrah. "There's no respite but he's hanging in," Ravi Shastri had said on the comms after Taskin Ahmed ducked a short one. "Bhalo, Bhalo," Mehidy Hasan Miraz would try and boost his teammate's morale from the other end. It helped little as Bumrah nailed one of his picture-perfect yorker. Bangladesh lose their ninth man, Bumrah gets his fourth. This has been as clinical as India could've visualised their bowlers to be. Bangladesh are 132/9. 

Pacers being deployed from both ends by India. They'd want to finish this as quickly as possible. From the estimate of Parthiv Patel, India wouldn't want to enforce follow on as it isn't just about this Test. The bowlers would want to take as much rest as they can get. Another nine Test matches to be played before the year ends. 

Meanwhile, Mehidy Hasan Miraz with a lovely drive off the front foot for four. Off Jasprit Bumrah, no less. He wouldn't have enjoyed that. It's evident by the back of a length delivery that follows. Bangladesh are 123/8. 

Jasprit Bumrah to resume the action post-Tea. Remember, just the one ball left in the 37th over. It was Hasan Mahmud's wicket that had forced a premature break. In comes Bumrah. Taskin Ahmed defends it. Bangladesh, 112/8. 

Jasprit Bumrah becomes only the sixth Indian pacer in history to pick 400 international wickets.

Jasprit Bumrah gets his third wicket right at the stroke of Tea break on Day 2. Hasan Mahmud departs for 9. Five wickets fell in the second session. They are trailing by 264 runs. We'll be back after a short break. Stay tuned. 

Mehidy cuts it past the diving Yashavsi Jaiswal at the second slip. Mehidy wanted to play the late cut and it went a bit finer, but Yashasvi Jaiswal had no chance.   

Edge and it goes through the gap between the wicketkeeper and the first slip. Hasan Mahmud gets his second boundary. 

Hasan Mahmud decides to use the long handle. He lofts one straight over the bowler's head to collect his first boundary. The four also helped Bangladesh reach 100-run mark.   

Bangladesh are in complete disarray as they have lost another wicket. Shakib Al Hasan departs after scoring a fine 32. Jadeja gets his second wicket. Shakib played a reverse sweep but gets an inside edge on his front boot. It lobs up and Pant from behind the stumps moves to his right and takes a simple catch. Umpires send it upstairs and it has come directly off the boot after the inside edge hit the bat. 

Against the run of play, Litton Das has played a sweep shot and Dhruv Jurel, who has just come in as a substitute for Jasprit Bumrah, takes a good tumbling catch at the square leg boundary. 

Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das have forged a solid 50-run stand for the sixth wicket. It has come a right time when Bangladesh needed it the most. It is the fourth fifty-run stand between these two. Bangladesh will be banking on them to convert it into a big partnership. 

Shakib takes the attack to Jadeja and finds the fence. It was a premeditated shot by Shakib as he gets down on one knee and plays the sweep in the square leg region for a boundary. This partnership is worth 48 now. 

Tossed up and Shakib put it away to collect a boundary. It was the first boundary after 30 deliveries. 

Three runs came from Ravindra Jadeja's first over. An eventful over. Shakib gets hit on the helmet while attempting a sweep shot. Siraj has left the field after he injured himself, while trying to save a boundary. Sarfaraz Khan has come in as a substitute fielder.

Shakib Al Hasan and Litton Das has put on an unbeaten 54-run stand for the sixth wicket. The duo have slowly revived Bangladesh's innings. As Ravi Shastri has said while doing the commentary, there is nothing for the spinners on this track for now. India will be looking to break this partnership. 

Lovely shot from Shakib. Ahswin chases it from the mid-on but failed to clear it cleanly. The back leg was touching the rope. Shakib is looking better as the innings has progressed. 

Litton Das is dealing in boundaries. He greeted Akash Deep with a boundary. Next ball, Akash Deep found an edge, which fell short of Virat Kohli at the second slip. Bangladesh are 63 for 5.  

Litton Das is excellent square of the wicket and he collects another boundary. He waited for the ball to swing and played it nicely to collect his second boundary. 

Shakib gets into the act and hits another boundary. The boundary also brought Bangladesh's fifty. Nine runs came from that Bumrah over. 

Litton Das gets off the mark with a delightful boundary. Bumrah bowls it full and Littin Das takes a big stride forward and drives it square of the wicket in the off side. Beats the chasing backward point fielder comfortably.

A much-needed boundary for Shakib and Bangladesh. Shakib and Litton Das have to do the heavy lifting from here. 

Another one bites the dust. Another edge, another catch in the slip cordon. KL Rahul, was the fielder on this occasion. Jasprit Bumrah gets the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim. Half of the Bangladesh side is back in the hut. They are tottering at 40/5.

Siraj strikes after the lunch break. He found the edge of captain Najmul Shanto and Virat Kohli made no mistake at the third slip. Shakib Al Hasan walks into bat. 

Streaky but Bangladesh and Mushifiqur won't mind it. Nicely played with the soft hands, KL Rahul at the third slip only get the dingers to it. Second boundary of the over. Bangladesh are 36 for 3. 

Here's Bumrah from the other end, and Shanto greeted him with a boundary. A very good-looking shot this from the Bangladesh captain, his third of the inning. 

Mohammed Siraj will start the proceedings for India after the lunch break.  A probing over from Siraj. Just a single came from it. Bangladesh are 27 for 3. 

It might not have been a good lunch for the Bangladesh cricket team. They had done well with the ball in the first hour but their top order has let them down again. The onus will be on captain Najmul Shanto and veteran Mushifiqur Rahim to first steady the ship and then try and stitch a solid partnership.

Akash Deep's double blow in the last over before the lunch has left Bangladesh reeling at 26 for 3 on Day 2. India added only 37 runs as Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud wrapped up India's tail cheaply. Mahmud become the first Bangladeshi bowler to bag a fifer on the Indian soil. 

In reply, Bangladesh had a poor start as they lost three quick wickets. It was Jasprit Bumrah, who started the proceedings with a corker. Then it was Akash Deep, whose double blow left Bangladesh in deep trouble. 

Mushfiqur Rahim gets off the mark with a boundary. Rahim opens the bat face at the last second and plays with soft hands, steering it past diving gully to his left. The fourth slip chases it but fails to stop the four.

Another one bites the dust. Two in two for Akash Deep. It was an action replay as Momimnul Haque had no clue. He is on a hat-trick. 

Akash Deep knocks over Zakir Hasan. Akash Deep picked up wickets in the first round of Duleep Trophy, bowling in-swingers against the left-handed batters. He produced a similar delivery to clean up Zakir today. 

The sweep is unveiled and a lovely one from Shanto. Four runs came from Ashwin's first over. 

Here is Akash Deep for the first time. A single came from his first over. Akash Deep bowled mostly the line of the sixth and seventh stumps. He was excellent in the Duleep Trophy. Here is R Ashwin with the ball. 

A testing over from Siraj. A huge appeal was turned down and India didn't take the review as Rishabh Pant said it was sliding down the leg stump. But it the replay suggested it was hitting the leg stump.  

Najul Shanto is off the mark with a lovely-looking cover drive. It was a rare full ball from Bumrah and Shanto latches on to it.  

Jasprit Bumrah strikes with the last ball of the over. Shadman Islam looked clueless about which way the ball was moving. Bumrah had already squared him a couple of times before cleaning him up. Shadman was hoping it will be an outswing but instead it came in and hit top of off stump. 

Bangladesh openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan are out in the middle. Jasprit Bumrah will start with the new ball for India. Sarfaraz Khan is in as a substitute fielder for Ravichandran Ashwin. Here we go again!

Back-to-back five-wicket haul for Hasan Mahmud. He becomes the first Bangladesh bowler to get a fifer in India. He was brought in by Shanto into the attack, and he duly obliged it by squaring up Jasprit Bumrah. India have been bowled out for 376. Hasan Mahmud (5/83) and Taskin Ahmed (3/65) were the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh. We will be back after the break.  

With that wicket, drinks have been called. India have lost three wickets and have added 35 runs from their overnight score. Taskin Ahmed has been excellent this morning. He has picked all three wickets this morning. Bangladesh would be looking to wrap up India's innings quickly. 

Taskin gets his third. Ashwin departs for 113. Second catch from Shanto. Ashwin gets a standing ovation as he leaves. 

Jasprit Bumrah is off the mark with a boundary. Bumrah pushed forward, opened his bat face and guided the ball past the slip cordon for a boundary.

Taskin Ahmed strikes again for Bangladesh. Akash Deep's cameo comes to an end after he ended up slicing one at Bangladesh's captain Najmul Shanto, who at mid off settles under the ball and takes a good catch.

Hasan Mahmdu bowls wide, and Akash Deep swings hard. The edge went past the third man boundary and Akash Deep collected his fourth of the morning. India are 366 for 7. 

Taskin Ahmed has bowled his heart out this morning. He could have two wickets to his name. He has not received help from Hasan Mahmud from the other end.
