Will start campaign against Narendra Modi from Varanasi: Lalu Prasad

He added that “intolerance had grown” in the country ever since Narendra Modi became PM.

A day after the thumping victory of the Grand Alliance in the Bihar Assembly polls, RJD chief Lalu Prasad said that people of the state had given a “thumbs down” to PM Narendra Modi’s “divisive tactics”.

He added that “intolerance had grown” in the country ever since Modi became PM.

Reiterating that Modi had been working “more as an RSS pracharak than PM”, Lalu said on Monday: “Our mandate is to oppose Modi. He had come to Bihar with an agenda for development, but later resorted to divisive tactics. The people of Bihar gave thumbs down to his motives.”

He added that while CM Nitish Kumar would be busy with state affairs, he would lead a nationwide campaign against the NDA government at the Centre.

“As I have already announced, I would start my campaign against him from Varanasi (from where Modi is MP). I will go to every part of the country and campaign against him,” he said, adding that his one-point agenda after the Bihar victory was to “target” Modi.

The RJD chief added: “Intolerance in the country has grown after Modi became PM. I also appeal to those who have voted for BJP to help safeguard the country. Those who mocked us from the Delhi studios should remember that people are the best judges. The Bihar mandate has clearly given a national message.”

He said the Nitish Kumar government would stick to development agenda and focus on the welfare of the poor.
JD (U) sources said that the Grand Alliance wanted to keep up the momentum of Bihar victory till the UP elections, which would be the next big challenge for NDA.

The Alliance had also prepared a strategy with a national role for the RJD chief, the sources added.

“We will also renew our attempts to bring back Mulayam Singh Yadav to our fold to prepare a strong front against NDA at the national level”, said a JD (U) leader.

UP CM Akhilesh Yadav targets BJP

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Monday that people of Bihar had “taught a lesson” to “those who have been trying to divide the society”. Akhilesh, however, brushed aside the talk of his party rejoining the alliance. “Bihar results have given a positive and important message to the country. People of Bihar have shown the secular and socialist path. They have also taught a lesson to those who divide the society. It is a message for those who believe in the Constitution and democracy,” Akhilesh said. ENS
