Prashant Kishor’s CAG served tax notice; asked to submit annual reports, bank statements

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor is currently working with Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) and the Congress party.

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s outfit – Association of Citizens for Accountable Governance (CAG) – has reportedly been issued a notice by the Income Tax department asking that the organisation declare its sources of income for the last four years.

According to a report in The Economic Times, the summons, issued by the Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence, were sent to the company’s Ahmedabad address and its officials were asked to appear before the central excise office. The company had also been asked to submit among other things, its annual reports, bills, invoices, expenditure ledgers and bank statements.

Kishor, in 2014, was credit with successfully managing Prime Minister Modi’s Lok Sabha election campaign that saw the BJP storm to power with its highest-every seat tally.

However, Kishor fell apart with the BJP leadership, and in 2015, worked with JD(U) leader and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar under a new banner – Indian Political Action Committee, defeating the BJP in the assembly polls. Kishor is currently working with the Congress, and strategising its poll campaign in the upcoming election to the Punjab and Uttar Pradesh assemblies.
