PM’s I-day speech cut and paste job: BJP

BJP described PM Manmohan Singh's I-Day speech as a 'cut and paste' job.

Describing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s Independence Day speech as a “cut and paste” job,BJP on Sunday said this shows that either he did not receive “directives from the top” or has “lost interest” in his job.

“A nation expects a lot from the Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech. But today it was a cut and paste story. The speech was lacklustre, directionless and visionless,” BJP spokesperson Rajeev Pratap Rudy said.

“The speech shows that either the Prime Minister did not receive directives from the top or he has lost interest in his job,” Rudy said.

BJP has often accused Singh of being a “weak Prime Minister” and alleged that the real power lay in the hands of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

The BJP leader insisted that Singh’s address did not deal adequately with burning issues like the situation in Kashmir, price rise and international relations.

“It was a dismal display by the Prime Minister,” Rudy said.

BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said while the Prime Minister had accepted that the country was reeling under price rise, terrorism and naxalism,he offered no concrete remedies.

“The Prime Minister’s speech was a container (sic) of confusion and contradictions. Though he has accepted that there are problems of inflation, terrorism and naxalism,he gave no concrete proposals on how to address these issues,” Naqvi said.

The Rajya Sabha MP used the analogy of delay in judicial court, where cases are deferred again and again,to say that the government was only making promises but not fulfilling them.

“The Prime Minister has given another date (for hearing problems facing the country). For the last six years,he has only been giving dates to the people,” Naqvi said.

The senior leader alleged that “ministers in Manmohan Singh’s cabinet were supporting Naxals” and there was high corruption in Commonwealth Games projects.
