Veteran BJP leader L K Advani expressed support for the anti-corruption movement headed by noted social activist Anna Hazare, but cautioned that presenting a picture that all politicians are corrupt was not good for India’s democratic politics.
“Our party has been against corruption since the beginning. Two sessions of Parliament were fruitless following our demand for discussion on various corruption cases in the country,” he told mediapersons at the Sardar Patel Airport here upon his arrival.
The former Deputy Prime Minister maintained that he had never criticised Hazare or was against his movement, and praised his efforts for demanding a stringent Lokpal Bill, saying corruption was a big issue in the country.
“But to paint a picture that all the politicians in the country are corrupt is not good for the democratic politics of the nation.”
The former Union Home Minister said India was a shining example of democracy in the world.
On Hazare’s praise for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar,an ally of BJP,for their work on rural development front, the former party President said it was a welcome comment.
Advani later went to Gandhinagar, his Parliamentary constituency, where he attended a seminar of BJP workers involved in the preparation for the April 19 election of newly formed Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC).
