Mulayam Yadav’s Rs 5,700-cr thank you to Azamgarh

The Akhilesh government has already sanctioned Rs 429 crore for Sathiaon sugar mill in Azamgarh.

Under flak for not visiting his parliamentary constituency since winning the polls, Mulayam Singh Yadav has decided to make it up to Azamgarh: with a Rs 5,700 crore package.

Following directives from the office of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the Azamgarh district administration has prepared a detailed project report (DPR).

Jagjivan Prasad, the officer on special duty to the CM, and Anita Singh, the principal secretary to the CM, had earlier sent letters to the Azamgarh District Magistrate to finalise the DPR and take up development works on a preferential basis.

“We had prepared the DPR as per directives from the CM’s office… The total amount is Rs 5,700 crore. We have emphasised on infrastructure so that Azamgarh which is excluded on development front gets an uplift,” says Ranvir Prasad, DM, Azamgarh.

Mulayam, he adds, had also talked to him about the projects to be undertaken. “The amount is huge and it is up to the government to decide the priority,” Singh says.

The DPR talks about 20 big projects for Azamgarh, including six new major bridges, upgradation of four health centres to 100-bed hospitals, and construction of six major roads.

The Akhilesh government has already sanctioned Rs 429 crore for Sathiaon sugar mill in Azamgarh, while the airstrip at Maduri village in Azamgarh is being upgraded. Apart from this, a sports stadium, sports academy and a dairy centre are proposed at Tamauli village.
The 2014 general election was the first time Mulayam contested from Azamgarh constituency.
